How to fix persistent 100% drive usage on Windows 10?

Do you have 100% disk usage in Windows 10? Is your computer hanging and freezing? Same old Windows, right? Except you’re employing a brand-new Windows 10 device; you’ve only had it a couple of days.

When the error was first discovered, only a couple of culprits were found. One of the options is to do a Windows 10 installation once again, and in case that doesn’t work here are some of the fixes:

1)     Update Your Antivirus

As with any such performance issue, the first thing to do is confirm that your computer has not been infected with malware. Your security software should be ready to respond whether it is a free app or a paid suite.

2)     Restart Your System

You know from experience that restarting your machine can often resolve all types of issues. Your Windows 10 100% disk usage problem is not any exception. While taking this route might not reveal the underlying reason for the matter, if it goes away, this is sufficient for you.

3)     Disable Windows Search

A known bug in Windows 8 and 10 can cause an enquiry loop which can be the explanation for your high disk usage. To briefly hold the Windows Search facility and notice if it enhances your disk issue, open an admin prompt and enter the command: net.exe stop “Windows search”. This will stop Windows search from running until the next time Windows is restarted.

4)     Clean Up Junk Files

Clean up junk files and operating memory to lower disk usage. Find an application which will help you with junk file clean-up features. You can clean up your PC free of charge easily.

5)     Reset Virtual Memory

Virtual memory may be a combination of RAM and some of your disk drive. Windows will briefly store files in virtual memory when the RAM is not adequate to perform a task and then barter them back to RAM when required.

Some computers’ operating systems don’t support a particular amount of RAM. For example, 32-bit versions of Windows can’t use 4 GB of RAM. If you can’t increase the RAM, reset the virtual storage.

6)     Switch Web Browsers

It may not be Flash that’s impacting on your browser performance. Another cause might be the browser itself, particularly if you’re using Google Chrome. The obvious option is to choose just one browser. Windows 10 already has two browsers built-in. You probably don’t need to use Internet Explorer, but Microsoft Edge is an adequate replacement for Chrome. Several browsers are available, some better than others. See our guide to the simplest web browsers for Windows to seek out an alternative.

7)     Change Energy Options

This change of energy settings seems to have worked for several users who have experienced the 100% disk usage on Windows 10. Go to Power Options, then edit plan settings and edit advanced power settings. Select the High-performance option from the drop-down box and confirm all plan settings are set to their defaults.

Takeaway:

Try these fixes to resolve disk 100% usage errors within the task manager. If you still have problems, you can always ask us for help and call us on 1300 016 017 for Windows 10 setup and repairs.
