Have you lost your signal? TV channels lost transmission? Poor picture quality?

There can be many reasons for the loss of the signal, disruption of service, or poor quality TV pictures. Let’s take a look at some of the fixes.

1)     Inspect your cables

Check the condition of your fly lead and any visible sections of your antenna cable. If  you see any physical damage, this is likely to be the problem. If your fly lead is damaged, you can pick up a replacement yourself at your local electronics store. Simply unplug the broken lead and then replace the new one between your TV and wall point. However, if your antenna cable is damaged, that’s another matter. An external TV antenna cable will probably require some professional assistance to replace.

2)     Wrong Source

This is probably the most common error and generally it is because you have pushed the wrong button and have ended up with a no signal message. If you are on the incorrect TV input and getting a no signal message, it does not mean that you do not have any TV aerial signal. It means you are getting no signal from whatever input is related to the input or source that you have inadvertently selected. Check your source input, and make sure you have selected the correct one.

3)     Faulty Digital Tuner

It does not happen often, but the tuner can be faulty on a new TV, right out of the box. The ATSC tuner is broken away from the HDMI or other inputs, therefore the tuner is unable to communicate with  the TV. You could try antenna installation and cable to a secondary TV.

4)     Strong Signal

Most commonly, the problem is due to the poor quality of the signal and the lack of signal strength.  The TV may be too far away from the signal location, or something physically blocks the signal. The antenna might be positioned in a less-than-ideal place, or facing the incorrect direction.

5)     Adjust the antenna

Relocate the antenna to a different spot and realign it up or down, and left or right. Moving the antenna a couple of feet from the converter box might not make an enormous difference, but it is worth a try. If it does not work, try another antenna position.

6)     Faulty TV

A faulty TV can occur and it is more common than people think. If your TV has gone faulty, we recommend trying these suggestions before condemning it. If you are reading this, you may be thinking that you don’t have the equipment capable of testing your TV aerial signal, but you can try swapping the TV over with another. If it does not work the first time, try giving it a re-tune; as two aerials, even two aerials in the same property, may be served from different TV aerials using different TV transmitters.
