When it comes to small business IT support, then it is important to know how to configure WordPress to send emails via the Gmail SMTP server. Let us have a look at this configuration below.

You can always use the Gmail SMTP server to send your WordPress site’s transactional emails for free that will really help you a lot when it comes to getting IT support services. This method works well and simultaneously will improve your site’s emails by using the default method of the PHP mail method. Firstly, you need to create a google app so that you can connect with Gmail server, and in that, there are many steps which take about 3-60 minutes, but this is all a one-time setup process. The basic process for setting up is –

  • Install the Post SMTP Mailer/Email Log plugin.

Firstly, you need to complete this process because this will let you configure your WordPress site to send emails via the Gmail API/SMTP server.

  • Create a Google app.

This is a  complicated process, but by clicking lots of buttons, you will be able to complete the process and this will allow your WordPress site to securely send the emails via the Gmail API.

  • Add your google app API keys to the Post SMTP Mailer/Email Log settings.

To finish the setup process, you have to go back to the Post SMTP Mailer/Email log settings in your WordPress dashboard and then paste in the Client Secret and Client ID and make sure to save the changes.

  • Send a test email to make sure that everything is working properly.

Now, the last step is to check whether everything is working properly or not. And for this, you need to send test emails. If all goes well, you’re finished and ready to go.

Another option is to use Gmail to send your WordPress site’s transactional emails. Gmail’s free sending limits are higher than any other SMTP services. When you are doing this, you need to remember that emails should be sent via the Gmail API instead of using the SMTP server details. Always remember, while setting up an app to use the Gmail API, add some “one-time complexity” to the process. This is definitely worth the effort because this will give you a more secure and reliable way to send your site’s emails.
