When you are moving house, you generally have quite a few electronics to manoeuvre. One of the more expensive belongings you own, outside of your house and car, is perhaps your TV. When talking about transport flat screen TV for a long-distance move, there are ways to pack it to help ensure its best protection. Start by gathering the required supplies, and then follow the steps below to pack your TV safely for transit.

1)     Gather the packing supplies

If your TV is more than seven years old and you can afford a replacement, you may want to give it away or donate it. But, once you have decided to pack a TV, gather the supplies you will need, starting with the original box that the TV was purchased in.

2)     Unplug all cords and accessories

First, you will have to disconnect and perfectly organize any external leads. You might find half a dozen extra cables which you will need to keep an eye on and label so that you can reconfigure them at your new home. Dust the back of the TV to ensure a clean work area. Disconnect each device one at a time and label the lead with tape and a marker.

3)     Label the cables

Put a piece of coloured tape above an input on the TV and wrap a piece of matching tape on the cable that should be connected there. This will help you identify which cables go where when setting up your home theatre after the move.

4)     Prepare your TV

5)     Protect Your TV

Cushion and cover your television. Wrap it loosely with packing tape with its sticky side out then roll the bubble wrap over. The end should adhere to the sticky surface of the packing tape preventing it from slipping around.

Moving straps are often needed to secure the blankets or pads to the TV and to also provide handles for you to carry the screen while you move it. Using straps will depend upon the size of the TV and how awkward it is to handle. Using padding or blankets, which is required to protect the unit, will make it difficult to carry without straps to hold it all together.

7)     Safely Transport TV
