Do you wish to revert your computer’s state to that of a previous point in time so that you can correct system malfunctions or other problems? Perhaps you have done a System Restore, right? But Wi-Fi isn’t working now? We certainly feel your pain. There are things you can try out when this happens. These don’t require much technical knowledge. Here are some of the most common fixes. These should hopefully solve your Wi-Fi related issues. Let’s get started.

1. Start with the Basics

The first thing to do is to check the basic settings. Make sure you have switched the Wi-Fi on your computer. This might seem like an obvious thing. But often, this is the last thing people think to check! If this is the case, the next step is to make sure you are connected to the right wireless routers. Trying to connect to your neighbour’s network instead of yours is a common mistake, especially if they have similar names that consist of random letters and numbers. Also, ensure that you verify the password for your router. If you did not change it once the network was set up, you will find it on a sticker placed on your router.

2. Turn Off Bluetooth

Bluetooth interferes with Wi-Fi networks. This is mainly because both send signals over a 2.4GHz radio frequency. Occasionally, Bluetooth cuts off access to the Internet entirely. In some cases, it just slows down the speed significantly. This is easy to test out. Just turn off Bluetooth on your computer if you have it on and see if it solves the problem. If it does, switch your router from a 2.4GHz band to a 5GHz band (if it supports it). This should allow you to use Bluetooth on your computer without causing Wi-Fi related problems.

3. Reboot your router and computer

This is a simple fix to solve many tech-related problems. Start off by rebooting your router. Unplug all the cables from the device and then wait for some time. After you plug it back in, wait for a minute or two for the device to set up. While you are waiting, go ahead and reboot the laptop you are using as well. Once both your computer and the router are back up and running, turn on Wi-Fi to see if this solved your problem. If it did not, it is time to move on to the next step.

4. Get closer

If you are too far away from the router then your Wi-Fi may not work. Grab your laptop and take it as close to the router as possible and then try to connect online.

5. Troubleshoot problems

Are you experiencing Wi-Fi problems on your Windows PC? Right click on the Wi-Fi icon which you can see on the taskbar. Select the “Troubleshoot problems” option. Wait for the device to do its thing. This takes less than a minute to complete.

6. Forget the Wi-Fi network and reconnect

This is another quick and easy fix. Find the Wi-Fi option from the settings and select your network. A window will pop up on your screen with some info that contains the “Forget” button. Click the button and then reconnect to the same network using your password.

7. Patch your router or roll back your PC

Your Wi-Fi router might have received a bad update on your Windows PC which stops it from working. If this is the case, check to see if your router has a new patch that fixes this issue. If not, the solution is to roll back your computer to an earlier version when the router still worked properly.

8. Perform a factory reset

A factory reset should do the job. It deletes all data from your computer. This includes the software bugs that might be causing the connection problems. It restores everything back to its original settings. But before you go down this road, make sure to back up the data on your computer.
